From Aki and Sabi:
This pop up wedding was the joining of two people whose lives were already intertwined. We couldn’t be more different, and yet we somehow managed to create a perfect day full of love and fun!
One of our favorite elements was the venue. The light-filled, wood-and-glass sanctuary tucked amongst the trees of Mills College was the perfect place to say our vows. Our family and friends sat around us in the curved pews and it felt incredible to be surrounded by so much love!
Every aspect of the day was a real reflection of who we are as a couple. We decided to lose the formality of tradition and focus on storytelling, connection, and community.
Our ceremony reflected our combined multi-cultural roots (Japanese, Indonesian, Dutch, English and Black Surinamian) through dress and libations. We even said vows to our daughter and gifted her a Kitchen Aide in the middle of the ceremony!
Our reception was super fun with pancake skewers and presecco, pizza, dancing and an outdoor carnival! Our 13 year old developed and made a three tiered matcha wedding cake that everyone raved about! And the 1920’s theme meant that our guests humored us by showing up in fascinators, flapper dresses and snazzy suits!
It really was an amazing day, made even more so by the support of so many people!
