chasing the light (part 2)…

I meant to post these pictures sooner but you know how time gets away! After our stay at Pismo Beach, we headed to Monterey for a day. We spent most of our time at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We took the long scenic Highway 1 to get there which I wouldn’t recommend if you get car sick. I did but it was still worth the amazing views! One of my favorite areas of the aquarium is the Jelly Fish exhibit. You can probably tell looking at the pictures below.

We got just in time for the Kelp Forrest feeding. Not the greatest picture from where I was sitting but it is great to see kelp animals getting fed.

on our little trip away to Pismo Beach and then for a day to Monterey. Amazing how you can really get away by not having to go too far in the bay area. Though, if you had to ask my husband, he’d say a four hour drive is far enough 🙂 One of my favorite things is exploring local restaurants and we ate at Hoppe’s Bistro which features a seasonally inspired menu and a nice selection of wines from local wineries.

A good part of our Pismo stay was hanging out at the beach with one willing and one not so willing model (you can guess which one is which). I experimented with light and shadows while we dug for treasures, built and watered castles, fished out huge plankton at the beach.

Just a quick note to say that I won’t be available the week of March 24th. I will return emails/phone calls when I return the week of he 31st.

A few from last Saturday’s session with the S family. What could be better than spending the morning taking pictures of these two adorable girls?

and I would walk ten thousand miles

On Friday, I took some pictures at the action packed walk-a-thon at Vannoy Elementary school. I was asked by one of the mom’s from my son’s preschool class (see his pic below) if I could take the pictures and I thought I’d give it a shot, literally as I typically don’t do event-type photography. The kids were pretty amazing! They braved the rain and cold weather to do forty some laps stopping after each one for a stamp and then got to pick some prizes.

Look at this cute little fella- he is 3.5, can you believe it? He let me take a few pictures and then got shy on me.

This handsome little blond boy is K, my son’s preschool buddy. It helped to have his mom do some pretty crazy things to keep him in splits.

And a handsome tiger…I loved that painted face. Got to chat a little photography with his dad- hope you like this picture!

Those eyes…aren’t they amazing? Her two siblings were equally stunning.

And last but not the least…my little guy that showed up with daddy for moral support. It was a bit crazy out there and it took him a while to let go of daddy’s hand. I can’t believe my baby starts kindergarten this year!

in the heart of the world

In the heart of the world there is a place that holds the secret names of the rocks & the trees & all the children of the earth & around it gather women & men who hold it dear & each night they stand together to keep it safe for as long as it takes til morning comes & no matter what you have been told, this will always be so, in the heart of the world.

One of the things I love best about kids is that simple things bring them so much joy. Things that we take for granted… go out there and take some pictures of your kids doing every day simple things that make them smile. Thing that are close to their heart and yours. We spent a cold afternoon at the beach with my little guy looking at crab shells, drawing hearts and running around at the beach. We got to hang out with Alex, another fabulous photographer friend visiting from the UK.

Srilu - Hi, I came across your pictures on flickr and just thought I’d let you know that you do nice work!

Your little guy is just so handsome (those eyes!) and your pictures are inspiring. I especially love the pb set and ones from india. Makes me want to go back just to take pictures 🙂

Sherri - These are so light and fun. I love the jumping one. And gosh, he is just adorable. 😉

urban session

It has been a while since I posted! Hope you are enjoying the warm weather we have been enjoying in the bay area for the past two weeks. I spent last weekend learning from a couple of amazing photographers in San Francisco. It was such a treat to meet them both and I am back feeling renewed and inspired. Here are a few pictures from the urban session. I had so much fun shooting these and am looking forward to doing more of these in the near future. If you are interested in booking an urban session for your child or your family, please email me.

As from the house your mother sees
You playing round the garden trees,
So you may see, if you will look
Through the windows of this book,
Another child, far, far away,
And in another garden, play.
But do not think you can at all,
By knocking on the window, call
That child to hear you. He intent
Is all on his play-business bent.
He does not hear, he will not look,
Nor yet be lured out of this book.
For, long ago, the truth to say,
He has grown up and gone away,
And it is but a child of air
That lingers in the garden there.
