San Francisco Family Portrait Session Album

Thought I would take a breather in this busy holiday season and share this lovely family session. I spent a few hours with this blue-eyed nine month old little man and his parents in their east bay home. The session was a gift from his aunt/grandparents and one to cherish for the family.

Please keep in touch via Facebook by liking Storyboxart! I post news and peeks from sessions out there frequently. Also, if you would like to review my work please go through the category links on the blog while my site is updated. I have also created a few Pinterest boards with a few images!

Engaged couple Mumbai

Am finally, blogging this delightful engagement shoot done back in April. It was photographed in Mumbai in a neighborhood close to where my parent’s live. There is something magical about Old World Mumbai. Sadly, that world is slowly disappearing amidst new construction and skyscrapers. Whenever, I go back to Mumbai, I try to document something a little piece of history that can hopefully live on through the images.

When I visited India in 2010, I photographed my son in this fabulous little Irani cafe called Cafe Brittania. And then the visit prior at this other Irani Cafe. You can probably sense my love for old Parsi cafes and buildings. For this e-shoot too, they old world was a perfect backdrop for the young couple celebrating their love for each other. I met up with the bride-to-be dressed in a lovely black sari and gold jewelry and her suited beau to embark on our little adventure India-style.

At one point in the shoot, when the bride was posing by the steps of what we thought was a vacant house, the door popped open and the owner stepped out. We explained what we were doing and I asked if she could peer out the window but she wouldn’t budge and what resulted was the photo above. And then we encountered a not-so-friendly gentleman that ended up letting us shoot on his property and also popping into the frame. Ha, in India… anything goes! One of the greatest things is random strangers that you chance upon that let you into their lives. It certainly will make for some fun memories for the grandkids!

Have you checked out Storyboxart on Facebook? I frequently post little previews or random images that don’t make it on the blog. Like Storyboxart here!

Kismet - I have seen these photos somewhere-perhaps on facebook and I love them more each time I see them.
This is so perfectly Bombay and the couple does full justice to the photos. Love how she is wearing a black sari. So subtle and gorgeous.
Great stuff!

Memories of My Heart

Memories of My Heart

I yearn for the days,
When I could dance in the rain and jump in the puddles,
I would follow paper boats floating on the streams,
My mother running with a towel to dry my damp hair,
I miss the days of hot soups and love and care

I yearn for the days,
When I would jump with joy on flying a kite,
The breeze blowing through my hair while riding my bike,
My father watching me if I should fall,
I miss the days of scraped knees and all

I yearn for the days,
When I would fight with my brother for the window seat,
I would mess up the game and call him a cheat,
The days of sibling rivalry and making up after,
I miss the hot summer days filled with fun and laughter

I yearn for the days,
When I would be happiest dressing up each doll,
Or reading a book under the covers and hide from all,
The days of feigned sickness to watch the cricket matches,
I miss the days of innocence and mischiefs

I yearn for the days,
When I could wake up with a smile and feel completely free,
I would spend the time with my friends and climb trees,
The carefree days and nights full of dreams,
I miss the days of childhood that my memory gleams

~ Ashwini W

The title of this post is borrowed from the poem above that was written by the lovely woman in the photos. It reminds me of my childhood days and brings back memories of those years growing up in India. When I designed their family album, I asked Ashwini, if I could incorporate some of her poems with the images and you can see a glimpse of it in the photos above. What could be better than your own words and story woven together forever as a keepsake?

This was not my typical young kids with parents family portrait session. She even warned me about her reluctant teenagers and their clothing choices. One of her emails to me said that one of the kids would probably come in red mesh shorts and green t-shirt looking like a Christmas tree if I don’t put my foot down:-) Ha! Luckily, I stopped by at their place prior to the session and helped with the choices. Always easier for a non-parent to convince a kid to do something (that goes for mine as well).

After their session I got a thank you email from Ashwini that said, “I am surprised my kids who don’t even like to take one picture actually lasted almost until the very end:)” The boys were great sports (ha, don’t know what mom was talking about) and their session was filled with adventure and exploration. I should say almost… as Ashwini is an avid hiker and recently climbed Half Dome in Yosemite. But that would be an adventure for another day!

PS. It took me forever to blog this session. I have so many to share and hope to in the coming weeks. From time to time, I do have peeks on Facebook like this page from their album. Please be sure to “like” the page to view the updates!

The dog days of summer are almost over. This felt like one of our warmest bay area summer’s and I am not ready to say goodbye just yet. This is one from today of the boy washing my car or rather playing around with the hose. Can’t complain as my car is looking a whole lot better and I got a couple of photos of the action. Looking forward to a few more days of warm weather!
Are you starting to think about your holiday photos? I will be announcing limited short story sessions soon. If you are interested in them please get in touch and be sure to check your email for newsletters.
