Giving in Awesome

Fb-Button

Last year, photographer Kristen Kalp started a wonderful movement called Giving is Awesome encouraging photographer’s all over the country to give back to their communities. In the spirit of the holidays and given the stress the downturn of the economy has had on lives of so many people, Storybox Art would like to donate a custom photography session to a local family.

The rules:
* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story : info@storyboxart.com by December 31st, 2009

The winner will be announced on January 9th — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With lots of love,

Alpana Aras-King

caroline - I love the pics and style.

If something can go wrong, it will. Based on good old Murphy’s Law it was a day where the rain gods were not in my favor. It was the only day the New York Mini Sessions were scheduled for as I was west coast bound the very next day of beautiful high 60’s weather. Yet, somehow we managed to wrestle up the hearty New Yorkers to shoot between rain drizzle and a dark, cloudy sky.

Aside from the crazy weather, I got to meet some amazing families from NY and work with them in a fun urban scape quite different from the San Francisco backdrop.

Meet Jack and his two friends. Sweet little Jack came with a whole bunch of fun stuff for the shoot (or his mom and her friend did). They even got some fall leaves that the kids got to toss around in the air- how fun is that!

One perk of my job is that it gives me a good workout. These two adorable brothers were so much fun! The little two year old gave me a run for my money but who can resist those beautiful blond curls? The older brother was a great helper in capturing his little brother and keeping him at bay. Hope you enjoy your sneak peek, mama!

Diana Medina - I am a grandparent to these two precious boys. These photos of them at play capture so much of their personalities. The expressions on their faces are classic. I live in San Diego but will be visiting this weekend and would like to obtain these photos.

Heather - Thanks Alpana for some amazing photos for us to treasure and capture this moment in time. We can’t wait to get them!

Sarah Wheeler - These are darling 🙂

These are a few photos that were done for Auora School as a part of their marketing material for the new year. Aurora is a progressive and diverse K-5 elementary school in the east bay. If you are interested in checking out this wonderful school, tours are happening now until January 2010 most Wednesday and Friday mornings.

While hanging out with the Kindergarten class, it was fun to see the kids take a quick yoga break to do the downward dog.

and hang out with the kids in the library as they made important choices about book choices…

That’s what his mom called him. You can see why when you look at the first photo of the handsome little guy. I just about flipped when I saw it!!
Just like they say, “Eyes are the window to the soul”.

It took a bit for him to warm up but once he did he was being his goofy self!

suzanne hedman - love these…and yes, the eyes are the window to one’s soul.
