I will be away from office from July 7-13th and returning emails/phone calls on my return. Happy summer! If you are interested in the Short Story Summer Mini’s please drop me a line. You can read more about them here.

Since I can’t have a blog post without pictures, here are a couple from a recent session. This was a rather spontaneous shoot for me but I loved the way it turned out. Beautiful light, beautiful baby girl + parents with some water play. What could be better than that? Since it was the couple’s anniversary, it made it an extra special day to capture these memories of their sweet little family.

For this session, I trekked out to the Marin Headlands to capture this family in some of their favorite spots. I fell in love with this gorgeous family and spent a wonderful evening documenting their time together. Our original session was intended for little William’s one year photos though we ended up doing them around fifteen months due to a home remodel/move. He was a busy little explorer with a love for rocks. You can even see some of the rocks from his collection in the picture below. Amidst, the exploring I got moments of pause here and there and a gaze into his blue eyes. Nine year old Jack was such a sweetheart as well playing his role as a protective big brother keeping a watchful eye on baby W and keeping him entertained.

In honor of Father’s day I put together this storyboard of pictures that celebrate this beautiful family…

I have been lax about updating my blog lately. I am still catching up with our move, trying to sell our old home and juggling home and work. I wanted to share some images from a family portrait session last weekend. This was a special family session which was purchased as a gift by the little one’s aunty. What a cool aunty!

We hung out in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco. It is always an adventure going to new locations and it was an extended morning of fun scouting spots near by, shopping to add to little A’s wardrobe, napping for one of us, and then some fabulous photos. The funny thing was the park we ended up at had two other photographers shooting family sessions. It must be that time of the year!

Going down the steps, I loved the light so we had to get a few photo. How I love it! And check out the cute little fashionista…

I had almost forgotten about these T-ball game pictures I took a couple weeks back until one of the parent’s asked about them today. As luck would have it I had lugged my camera the day Rowan got his game ball. It seems that there are a few things that are of significance for the little T-ballers. 1. Hot dog/soda snack after the game. 2. Ring Pop (quite a pop culture education for me) and 3. The game ball which is given to a player based on his performance at the game. The great thing is that our wonderful coach makes sure all the kids get a turn taking the coveted ball home. Being a hot, hot day I almost gave up on taking pictures but boy was I glad to get a few quick ones in R’s moment of glory!

Can you see me dancing?? I am excited to share that Storybox Art has been nominated as the best family photographer in the San Francisco bay area by Nickelodeon’s Parents Connect website. The nomination is for the 2009 Parent’s Pick awards. What are parent’s pick awards? You can read all about it here but the short of it is that the nominees are solely based on parent reviews and ratings. This is such a honor as there are so many wonderful photographers in the bay area. For my nomination, I have to thank my most wonderful clients that have written the amazing reviews that you can read on the Nickleodeon site here. Each and every one means so much to me!

Thought I would share one…

What distinguishes Alpana among family/newborn photographers is her AMAZING gift for making photos that are true “art” rather than simply great photos! My husband and I wanted to capture the fleeting and precious moments of our newborn in his first few weeks of life. When we saw Alpana’s work it was love at first sight. Her photos are artistic, passionate, emotionally stirring, and simply magical. We knew we had to work with her and she made working with her so easy. She came to our home and worked around our baby’s schedule, which was very much appreciated as new parents. Alpana made us feel very comfortable and was so gentle and patient with our baby. All of this comes through in her photos. Our photos are amazing and take our breath away each time we look at them. She’s truly a gifted and amazing photographer. We can’t wait to work with her again.

Hope all you fabulous moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day! For me, the day was an excuse to do something fun that I had been meaning to do with my little guy. We spent a wonderful day hanging out in San Francisco with our friends from the East Bay. Nothing like a spur of the moment plan to head out to the city and let the day unfold. It started with a cable car ride with stops along the way and somehow ending up at a little beach we discovered as we got off the cable car. Rowan and his friend Zachray had fun just digging up sand and tossing it into the ocean. Forever. Is it the simple little things that bring you the most joy?

I had no idea that little people could be such effective actors let alone pull off an amazing production. We recently experienced the wonder through my son’s K/1 class play called “The Great Kapok Tree”. This really is an ode to the wonderful teachers that were largely responsible for making the play a huge success. The school itself has been amazing in helping build my son’s confidence from being a shy little guy (in groups anyway…and at home it is a different story) to this brave kid that was able to deliver his lines on stage in front of an audience. He started out by telling me that he had stage fright and it took him a bit to dial up the volume on his lines. The teacher did this amazing thing telling the kids that they had to give each other courage to remember their parts for the play. Here are a couple of fun clips…the little guy on the left in the Monkey Costume is mine

The kids were also given their first “homework” assignment of crafting out a play project. Rowan decided to do a monkey project that he worked on with his dad. I was pretty impressed with the job they did! It involved research on the rain forest, identifying various species of monkeys, picking out material and building it and also injecting his own story line. The monkeys playing tag, the “friendly” harpy eagle with the monkey and the Howler Monkey chasing food.
