Go, Miles. Go!

Coming up with a good title can be a bit of a challenge for a non-writer like me. So the title is partly based on the lively subject of the session and because it is one of my son’s favorite book Go, Dog. Go! How’s that for a reason? It is just such a wonderful, silly, and fast-paced book filled with the adventures of the blue, green, yellow, red dogs of all shapes and sizes. Kinda like my adventure with this adorable, good natured little guy.

Change. It can all happen so quickly! When the B family booked their session about a month back, 10 month old little M was content to sit in one spot and watch the world around him. You know, the wonderful age where they aren’t running away from you. But was I in for a surprise! There was a brand new crawler ready to take on the world. And there was no stopping him….

pssst….check out that full head of hair!

After a fair amount of chasing I decided to resort to a bit of trickery. I found his cute little chair and it was the perfect way to keep him seated for a few minutes while I got some photos.

Thanks B family for letting me hang out with you and capture some precious memories for you!

hb - wow, i really love the pictures! it was so much fun working with you. can’t wait to see the rest!

A party of five in San Francisco

This lovely family was visiting San Francisco from the east coast and had booked me at short notice. They were staying downtown and it was mainly going to be a shoot with the mom and three kids under five. All boys! I was pretty nervous and worried about the logistics of doing a down-town shoot with the little ones. I asked if she didn’t mind getting away from downtown and she was agreeable to meeting me at Fort Mason. Quite the supermom she was showing up right on time at the location with her well-behaved and adorable boys! It was pretty cold which was hard for little baby S. He was also so ready to explore so to catch him sitting still was quite a challenge. I am sure the shoot seemed a bit scattered V, but I seriously am in love with the photos from your session. I can’t believe how many amazing pictures I got… but with such a good looking family it was to be expected πŸ™‚ Thanks for the opportunity and also to your husband for popping by for a bit!

Alex - Wow, you rocked this session, love the star fish and i love the family shot ( i know you’re just trying to make me envious with the bridge in the background) ….if you shot this for me and mine i’d get it on a canvas, beautiful . πŸ˜‰

Pammy - These came out fabulous Alpana!

chasing the light (part 2)…

I meant to post these pictures sooner but you know how time gets away! After our stay at Pismo Beach, we headed to Monterey for a day. We spent most of our time at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We took the long scenic Highway 1 to get there which I wouldn’t recommend if you get car sick. I did but it was still worth the amazing views! One of my favorite areas of the aquarium is the Jelly Fish exhibit. You can probably tell looking at the pictures below.

We got just in time for the Kelp Forrest feeding. Not the greatest picture from where I was sitting but it is great to see kelp animals getting fed.

Crystal Jelly… cool or scary?

chasing the light (part 1)…

on our little trip away to Pismo Beach and then for a day to Monterey. Amazing how you can really get away by not having to go too far in the bay area. Though, if you had to ask my husband, he’d say a four hour drive is far enough πŸ™‚ One of my favorite things is exploring local restaurants and we ate at Hoppe’s Bistro which features a seasonally inspired menu and a nice selection of wines from local wineries.

A good part of our Pismo stay was hanging out at the beach with one willing and one not so willing model (you can guess which one is which). I experimented with light and shadows while we dug for treasures, built and watered castles, fished out huge plankton at the beach.

in the heart of the world

In the heart of the world there is a place that holds the secret names of the rocks & the trees & all the children of the earth & around it gather women & men who hold it dear & each night they stand together to keep it safe for as long as it takes til morning comes & no matter what you have been told, this will always be so, in the heart of the world.

One of the things I love best about kids is that simple things bring them so much joy. Things that we take for granted… go out there and take some pictures of your kids doing every day simple things that make them smile. Thing that are close to their heart and yours. We spent a cold afternoon at the beach with my little guy looking at crab shells, drawing hearts and running around at the beach. We got to hang out with Alex, another fabulous photographer friend visiting from the UK.

Srilu - Hi, I came across your pictures on flickr and just thought I’d let you know that you do nice work!

Your little guy is just so handsome (those eyes!) and your pictures are inspiring. I especially love the pb set and ones from india. Makes me want to go back just to take pictures πŸ™‚

Sherri - These are so light and fun. I love the jumping one. And gosh, he is just adorable. πŸ˜‰

my muse, my boy.

As from the house your mother sees
You playing round the garden trees,
So you may see, if you will look
Through the windows of this book,
Another child, far, far away,
And in another garden, play.
But do not think you can at all,
By knocking on the window, call
That child to hear you. He intent
Is all on his play-business bent.
He does not hear, he will not look,
Nor yet be lured out of this book.
For, long ago, the truth to say,
He has grown up and gone away,
And it is but a child of air
That lingers in the garden there.

– Robert Louis Stevenson
